The Wolf Point School Board elected its leaders Monday, May 11, during an organizational meeting.

Roxanne Gourneau was unanimously approved to be re-elected as the board’s chair. Keith Higgins was unanimously selected to serve as vice chair again.

Appointed were Demi Wilkinson as district clerk and Naomi Erickson as board secretary.

New board members are Pryce Paulson for district 1 and Holly Denny for district 5.

Gourneau thanked outgoing trustees Liara Braaten and Trenton Wemmer for their service.

During the regular board meeting, Pastor Rex Green expressed frustration with the school district’s cell phone policy. Green, who serves as a substitute teacher, said the policy isn’t always being enforced. Because of his concerns, he will only be willing to be a substitute teacher at the elementary school levels.

Superintendent of Schools Dr. David Perkins announced that Wolf Point’s junior high has improved enough to be out of the comprehensive school improvement status. The high school will be out in one more year.

“That’s a good thing,” Perkins said.

Perkins added that the school district now has five new bus drivers thanks to the bus driving school that took place in Wolf Point.

Resignations were received from Amanda Damon as Southside physical education teacher, Lori Sande as junior high English teacher, Ellen Sievers as Southside paraprofessional and LeAndra Gustafson as Northside paraprofessional.

Hired were Leine Cristina Abang as junior high science teacher, Deanna Sherman as Southside kindergarten teacher, Analene Alonzo Duarte as junior high teacher, summer custodial workers Beverly Corne, Kendra Hawk, Shelby Martell and Rheanna Wetsit and summer groundskeepers Jason Hamilton Jr. and Anthony Red Cloud.

Emergency authorization employees renewed were Laura Dennis, Tiffanie Irizarry, William Larsen, Tiffany Sietsema and Kylene Johnson.

Extracurricular hires included Cole Hanks for high school football assistant, Jed Loucks for junior high football and girls’ flag football, Jaki Harada for high school speech and drama assistant, Caleb Pendleton for high school wrestling assistant, Dana Matejovsky for high school wrestling volunteer and junior high wrestling and Philline Gorder for high school wrestling volunteer and junior high wrestling.
