Bainville High School senior Kaiden Holmes has excelled in sports during his high school days for the Bulldogs.

Recently, he signed a letter of intent to compete in track for the University of Central Missouri. Holmes said he made the decision because he has some family members living in Missouri. He plans on running the 400-meter dash and 800-meter dash for thee Mules.

The three-sport athlet said his favorite sport has been football.

“It’s cool to hit people,” Holmes said of why he likes football. “It’s not very often that you can do that in life.”

Personal highlights in football included making a game-winning catch in Jordan this past season. “That was pretty cool,” he said.

He added that team highlights were winning the conference championship and hosting a playoff game during his junior season.

For basketball, Holmes lists a team highlight as qualifying for the divisional tournament in his senior season.

“I had a feeling we could do it,” Holmes said of advancing to divisional. “But I knew it would be a tough path.”

One of his individual highlights was scoring 15 points and defending Brooks Solem during a victory in Culbertson as a senior.

Holmes was voted to the All-Conference defensive team as a senior.

During the spring, he has been a standout in track as he has qualified for the state meet in the 400-meter dash, 800-meter dash and 1600-meter relay throughout his career.

The senior said the relay is his favorite event. “It’s more fun to run with your teammates,” Holmes said.

Goals for the upcoming season include running under two minutes for the 800 and under 50 seconds for the 400. He also wants to place near the top at the divisional meet.

In the classroom, his favorite subjects are history and English. His favorite teacher is Sarah Morales because he likes her teaching style.

At college, Holmes will study anthropology.

Holmes has gone to school in Bainville since moving from California in the seventh grade.

“I remember that the winters were a little harsh at first, but I’ve gotten used to them through the years,” he said.

Holmes appreciates the people of Bainville. “It’s a fun place to be,” he said.
