State Fund Proposes Rate Reduction

Montana State Fund has proposed a 5 percent average rate reduction for Montana businesses. If approved by the state, the new rates will take effect on policies beginning July 1. Montana State Fund is Montana’s only non-profit workers’ compensation insurance company, insuring 24,570 businesses and some 250,000 employees across the state of Montana.

This year’s reduction follows a trend of reducing rates consistently with rates now at their lowest level in the non-profit’s 35-year history. With this latest reduction, MSF has lowered rates by 64.6 percent in the past 20 years and 18.8 percent in the last three years. This marks the sixth consecutive year of rate reductions and 20 years since MSF saw a rate increase.

“This is great news for everyone in Montana, whether you own a business or work for one,“ said MSF president and CEO Holly O’Dell. “Lower costs and stable rates help businesses grow, create new jobs, and invest in safer workplaces. MSF is committed to keeping coverage affordable while passing savings on to employers.”

Through fair and competitive rates, MSF’s focus remains on providing stability and value to all Montana businesses. MSF is proud to provide businesses with competitive rates, superior claims and safety services, and exceptional customer service.
