Students Place In Optimist Club Essay Contest
Wolf Point High School senior Cole Boysun recently won the Optimist Club of Wolf Point’s essay contest based on the theme of “How Acts of Kindness Help Me Understand What My Community Means To Me.”
Boysun was awarded $300 for the honor. In addition, the essay will be sent to the district level club in Regina, Canada, to be judged along with winners from other Optimist Clubs in the district, where a college scholarship of $2,500.00 is awarded.
Boyson did a wonderful job of articulating this year’s theme. “He expressed himself well through the essay and deserved the honor of first place,” club chairman Clyta Dillon said.
Jayla Big Talk was awarded second place and received $150.
The Optimist Club has been active in the community since 1992. Other programs and service projects are: Valentine’s drive-thru dinner, Easter Egg hunt, traveling tacos, scholarships, donations to baseball, art supplies to schools, sponsoring the newly revived Stampede Talent Show, Halloweenee, Fill-A-Box for schools, Radioa- thon, Christmas Bazaar and Angel Tree. In addition, the Junior Optimists visit the residents at the Faith Lutheran home regularly. Officials thank Gysler’s Hardware and NAPA for making the Optimist Club donation jars available.
Dillon also commented that the local club has had many members sadly pass on and is in need of more younger members.
