Brian Miller, one of three Democrats seeking the U.S. representative position for Montana’s eastern district, visited with area voters during a trip to Roosevelt County last week.

Miller said he enjoyed his time with the Fort Peck Tribal Executive Board on Wednesday, Feb. 25. “It was great getting to meet the chairman and the other folks. They shared their concerns.”

He explained the TEB’s concerns included health care costs and their sovereignty not being respected. “We need to respect the sovereignty of tribal nations,” Miller said. If elected, he hopes to establish a policy that demands respect for all tribes so they can take care of their people.

While campaigning in eastern Montana, Miller said the issues that come up the most are health care, agriculture, tariffs and the Epstein files.

He noted health care costs are a challenge for all people and must be addressed by Congress.

As far as agriculture, farmers say markets are too low. “The trade war hasn’t helped them at all,” Miller said. Because of the importing of Argentina beef, ranchers say that having country of origin labeling should be required.

Miller feels there should be full disclosure with the Epstein files regardless of the names included. He said he doesn’t care even if former presidents Obama and Biden are listed, all files should be released. He said conservative voters who are parents urge for full disclosure. “A lot of dads are upset that this isn’t getting out,” Miller noted.

The Democrat also asks why didn’t the Obama and Biden administrations release information about Epstein during their terms.

Miller is aware of the case involving Robert Orozco- Ramirez of Froid being arrested on the charge of illegal reentry. He feels the purpose of securing borders is to keep unwanted individuals out of the country. He said Orozco- Ramirez has shown that he is a positive contributor in his community. “If we already know what they’re like, why are you wanting to kick him out?” Miller said. “Why waste taxpayers’ money having sit in a jail cell? They should free him immediately and let him be with his family.”

The candidate continued about federal authorities, “We trust our local sheriff and law enforcement. We don’t trust these people.”

Miller describes himself as an independent thinker. He said no one in the Democratic Party has told him how to think or feel about an issue.

Although the incumbent is Republican Rep. Troy Downing, Miller feels that a Democrat can be elected to the position. “I’m not a politician,” said Miller, who has lived in Montana for nearly 25 years. “I’m a Montana dad who worries about his kids’ future in Montana.”
