Individuals Face Federal Charges For Intent To Distribute On Reservation
Four individuals have been charged with conspiracy to possess with the intent to distribute controlled substances, meth and fentanyl, and possession of a firearm on the Fort Peck Reservation. Charges were field on Feb. 5.
According to court documents, beginning on or about Nov. 1, 2023, and continuing until on or about Sept. 27, 2024, at or near Poplar, defendants Donald Joseph Standing Bear Romero, Jesus Alan Avitia, Lucinda Standing Bear and Patricia DeLeon knowingly and unlawfully conspired and agreed with each other to possess with the intent to distribute 50 grams or more of actual methamphetamine and 40 grams or more of a mixture of substance containing a detectable amount of fentanyl.
Charges for count three and count four reads that Standing Bear Romero and Avitia possessed a firearm in furtherance of drug trafficking crimes.
Penalties for the intent to distribute methamphetamine is 10 years to life imprisonment, a $10,000 fine and at least five years of supervised release. Penalties for the intent to distribute fentanyl are a minimum of five years to 40 years of imprisonment, a $5,000,000 fine and at least four years of supervised release.
An arraignment hearing was scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 18.
