Lustre Grade School held its spelling bee in preparation for the Valley County Spelling bee to be held in Frazer on Feb. 25. Mrs. Dawson 01fert addressed the students. She said “There are times in life when we need to be doing the hard things. Being part of a spelling bee is an opportunity to learn how to do a hard thing. Be brave and take courage.” Judges were Tiffany Garner, Shelly Keller and I lannah Brown. Participants were in grades four throuth eighth.
The contest took three rounds plus four rounds to choose an alternate. Those who qualified to compete in the Valley County Spelling Bee were Gavin Pancratz (fifth), Brielle Keller (fourth), Ava Flolzrichter (third), Harlo Reddig (second) and Justin Schiller (first). The alternate is Coleman Hilkemann.
Times of the basketball games with North Country were adjusted on Friday the 30, so they could get on the road sooner, as a storm was forecast. The LGS girls JV made an exciting game with the score 19-18 with 1:50 left on the clock, in favor of North Country. Lustre came back with two points off the backboard to win the game 20-19.vThe Junior Varsity girls’ team consists of Harlo Reddig, Justice Byers, Ava Holzrichter, Ashtyn Traeholt, Grace Byers, Skylar Cumins, Tessa Olfert.
The Lions were behind at half 13-14, and steadily gained in 3rd till the game was tied at 26 in 4th with 4:20 on the clock. Lustre won 32-30 against Med Lake/Froid Redhawks. They’ve been doing a good job, learning how to support each other.
The seventh and eighth grade choir joined the LCHS choir in singing the National Anthem before the varsity games with North Country. It was great to hear the band between half times, some of the players in their team uniforms. The varsity boys won their game, the LCHS varsity girls won against Froid in a close one 44-41. It was neat to see Hannah, Lauren, Sidney and Kencia all making threes in their game.
