Lustre News

Today has been one of power outages, with all of Lustre losing power at 11:10 this morning. The frost on power lines were to blame, and trees are covered with an inch or more of heavy frost. They are quite beautiful. The fog has been heavy all week. Look out for snow or some form of precipitation in 90 days.

The power has been off and on, with it still off at 8:30 pm. Thanks to KVCK, we could still hear the Lustre Poplar basketball games tonight, between flickering lights, in which both teams did well.

Looking back over 2025, we grieved the loss of LCHS alumni: Alice Unger, Arden Unrau, Florence Chalmers, Irma Schultes Heidner, Les Zerbe, Ted Wiens, Mark Sauskojus, Frank and Ethel Wiens, David Wedel and Vern Unger. We welcomed children of our alumni, Elise Brown born to Michael (17) and Kaitlyn (18) Brown of Lustre, Riley Avery born to Brad and Amanda (12) (Lenihan) Henning (living in Virginia where Brad serves in the U.S. Navy). Also Weston Bartel, born to Evan (16) and Kaylena Bartel in Wyoming where Evan is a paramedic for Cody Regional Health and a volunteer fire fighter. Michael (former faculty) and Sherelyn Butler welcomed a son, Declan Michael in Newport, Ore., where Michael serves as youth pastor at First Baptist Church in Newport, Oregon. A daughter, Gemma Zerbe, was born to Coney (05) and Heather Zerbe in Absarokee.

In sports, Lauryn Holzrichter broke the long-standing single game points record at the district tournament against Frazer, scoring 40 points in the game. Kencia Brown was selected All Conference and All State, despite a tough injury partway through the year. As Coach Randy Reddig said, “The LCHS boys basketball team ended their regular season 15-3 after dropping two to Scobey and one to Circle during the regular season. They then went on to place second at the 3C District tournament in Wolf Point and second at the Eastern C Divisional in Sidney. They earned their way to their third consecutive State Tournament in Butte! Johnslee Pierre and Cam Reddig were selected to All State. Byron Ewing and Clay Reddig were also selected All-Conference for the boys. All Glory to God!”

In track, Sidney Klatt and Lauryn Holzrichter made it to the state meet in Missoula, and eight boys competed at the state meet: KJ Brown, Johnslee Pierre, Yoseph Lee, Byron Ewing, Preston Klatt, Mason Hilkemann, Diek Olfert, and Kayden Charette. “Notable performances include Johnslee Pierre winning the long jump, triple jump and the 300 hurdles at the state meet. Prestyn Klatt got second at state in the 1600. Preston also broke a 50 year old school record in the 800 earlier in the year. Pierre was able to best-his-own school record in the long and triple jump. Mason Hilkemann was able to break his own record in the shot put as well.”

Although the farmers had poor crops, God is faithful to meet needs. From Brant Unrau, president of the LCHS Alumni/Booster club, “Thanks to a matching donor, every dollar donated to LCHS, up to a total of $25,000, will be matched dollar for dollar. Please join us in multiplying the impact of your generosity.”

Looking ahead, Frazer plays at Lustre Jan. 10, Lustre plays Circle at Circle, Jan. 16, and Scobey comes to Lustre Jan. 17. Games beginning at 1 p.m. Saturday. Save the Date! Schmeckfest is March 27, 2026. Thank you to the linemen who have worked hard to get power back to our community on Sunday morning around 11 a.m.
