The Lustre Christian High School music department performed its annual Christmas concert under the direction of Jerson Ayuno at the EMB Church on Tuesday night, Dec. 9. The program was opened with prayer by Pastor Hathaway, and Principal Wes Young welcomed the audience. T.J. Cumpio was the narrator, connecting all the pieces.
The band began with Carol of the Bells, an excellent performance of Canon in D by Johan Pachelbel and Larry Neeck’s arrangement of Joy to the World titled Rockin’ Merry Christmas.
On behalf of the board, Justin Klatt collected an offering for the school, saying “God has blessed us with so many gifts, among them these young men and women. We are thankful for the great staff and administration.”
Accompanied by Mr. Jay, the choir did a medley in small groups. Hannah Brown, Lauryn Holtzritzer, Monica Uy, Samantha Neufeld and Sidney Klatt sang He has come for us (God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen) by Meredith Andrews. Tessa Olfert and Chris Traeholt sang Noel by Lauren Daigle. Some of the words were “The Story of a baby boy, the Light of the World, the Love of God given for us.”
T.J. Cumpio and Ashtyn Traeholt sang a baritone-soprano duet of O Holy Night.
The band came back with a section called Epic
Soundtracks. They were
Never Enough (The Greatest Showman, arranged by Ayuno; The Avengers Theme, arranged by Michael Brown and Will Rapp; and Magnificent Seven, arranged by Michael Story. They did a good job of this western theme.
The choir sang a section they called Hope and Christmas Praise. Sidney Klatt soloed in Oceans/King of Kings arranged by their director.
Lauryn Holtzritzer soloed in The Blessing, arranged by Ayuno. Ashtyn Traeholt soloed in Mary Did You Know, with the arrangement inspired by Pentatonix, followed by Agnus Dei, arranged by Ayuno.
The last four songs were contemporary in style: Don’t Stop Believin’, arranged by Matt Conaway featured Samantha Neufeld as the soloist; Counting Stars, arranged by Paul Martha; and had a hearty chorus, Alleluia for the Lord God, The Almighty Reigns.
Then the band did Seven Nation Army, arranged by Jay Davison. The finale was
Praise by Elevation Worship, arranged by Mr. Jay. It featured Tessa Olfert at the piano and the percussion section.
Timothy Lenihan, son of Pastor Frank and Debbie Lenihan and a 2014 graduate of LCHS, was promoted to captain in the U.S. National Guard on Nov. 14. He and his wife, Annika, live in Billings.
The EMB Christmas program is Dec. 21, at 6 p.m.
