Bainville Adding Lights To Football Field
Football at Bainville High School will feature a large difference next year. Thanks to local donations, the Bulldogs will now have lights on their home field, Sgt. Michael Picard Memorial Field.
Superintendent of Schools Darin Hannum said, “The Booster Club worked hard to get donations to get lights for the football field.”
He explained the poles and braces have already been installed. The actual lights will be put in this spring.
“They had a bunch of generous donations from individuals and businesses,” Hannum said. “It’s been a very exciting time. Our football coaches are excited.”
Cost for the project was about $90,000.
One possible benefit for the football program is that the team could practice later under the lights late in the season.
Hannum feels it’s probable that other school-related academic activities could be conducted on the field during evenings.
In the past few years, Bainville has held one night game per year with temporary lights. Those games have been well attended and fans have enjoyed the events.
Hannum said it might also be easier to find referees for night games held on Thursday, Friday or Saturday, compared to Saturday afternoon games.
“Those poor officials get stretched to the limit,” Hannum said.
