Brockton Girls Aim To Compete For Divisional Tourney Berth

With four returning starters, the Brockton Warriors are anticipated to be one of the top squads for District 2C girls’ basketball this season.

Returning starters for the Warriors include All-Conference performer Tamryn Bauer, Marlene Fish and Quintana Young. Taylor Cummins and Claire Clampitt each started at times last season.

After suffering an injury near the end of last season, Bauer looks set for a solid season. She is about 40 points short of reaching the 1,000 point milestone for her career.

“She’s healthy,” Coach Shawn DeMarrias said. The Warriors are also looking for senior Raykira Track to play an important role for the Warriors.

“She will add good minutes and help us a lot,” De-Marrias said.

Brockton features a turnout of 17 players to open the season.

“We have a couple of eighth graders who are looking good,” DeMarrias added.

Goals for the season include qualifying for the district tournament and staying healthy.

“We’re aiming to play in March, but we have to play our schedule first,” DeMarrias said.

With seven seniors, experience is also a strength for the Warriors.

“They’re heavily experienced and hungry,” the coach said. “I’m also excited about our future.”

The Warriors are shooting to qualify for the divisional tournament for the first time since 2014.

“Expectations are high, but we have do do the work in practices,” DeMarrias said. He added that the team has a good summer of playing in open gyms.
