A packed housed attended the Wolf Point Community Organization’s meeting to vote for Wolf Point’s housing commissioners on Monday, Nov. 17.
Four candidates were on the ballot for the two positions. Candidates included incumbents Nadine Adams and Gracie Pipe along with former housing director Louella Douglas and Terrence Hamilton. The top two vote getters were Adams with 81 votes and Hamilton with 80 votes. Douglas finished with 73 votes and Pipe had 56 votes.
The Tribal Executive Board now needs to approve the two individuals recommended by WPCO. Prior to the election, the four candidates met with the tribes’ human resources officials.
During Monday’s meeting, WPCO members approved $2,000 for the Bigger Sky Kids to pay for supplies and snacks. WPCO also approved $500 for Da’Shaun Jackson to help pay for some expenses so he can play in the Native All-American Football Game in Minneapolis in December.
WPCO will give out turkey baskets during its next meeting on Monday, Dec. 15. A movie for students is planned for Monday, Dec. 22, and a kids carnival on Friday, Dec. 26, at the community center.
During the TEB report, Roxanne Gourneau said she is hopeful that the camera feed will be improved soon so people can easily watch TEB meetings online.
Gourneau discussed her desire to make the Chief Redstone clinic in Wolf Point better. She said she was recently told by Indian Health Services’ officials that there was only $20 million available for improvement after previously believed there was $35 million available. She said doctors, an X-ray machine and more dental chairs are among the things needed.
“We want the same facility that everybody else has,” Gourneau said.
She asked for encouragement if people still want her to fight for the services.
“We want the facility to look like the 21st Century,” Gourneau said.
