Lustre News
As fall turns to winter during November, we are having scattered rains and temps between 34 and 57 this week. Every day of good roads for all the traveling is so appreciated.
Families traveled to Saco for the North Country competition against the Lustre jamboree and junior high teams last Saturday. They were fun games to watch, and the coaches involved everyone as this is a time of learning. The Lustre teams came away with wins. Their games are all played in October and November, so this week was a busy one. They traveled to Nashua Tuesday, played at home Friday against the Dodson Coyotes, and went to Frontier School Saturday morning. Then Monday is a game against Poplar, a first time they will visit Lustre. The final home games will be Nov. 14-15.
The games are on NFHS for those who do not like to travel this time of year. It’s a great time to see neighbors and be part of an extended community, enjoying the teamwork and excellent coaching of our coaches. We saw the excellent defense led by Hannah Pancratz, and the points were spread around on both the older boys’ and girls’ teams. The games with Frontier began early Saturday morning, and we all woke to snow and 25 degrees. Brrr.
The LCHS volleyball team finished its season with fourth place at the district volleyball tournament, losing to Scobey. The LCHS teams begin their first day of basketball practice on Nov. 20.
As we come to the week of Nov. 11, it is important to honor our veterans, and to pray for those who serve now, to do their best, and to honor our country. Perhaps a call to a statesman is in order to express your thanks for their service too, as our leadership comes under fire from those who do not know or respect our constitution. Courage to stand for the righteous ways is akin to Aaron and Hur’s support of Moses in that long ago day. In honor of Veterans’ Day, may I suggest several resource: American Heroes, by Oliver North, Soldier Stories by Joe L. Wheeler, Saved: A War Reporter’s Mission to Make it Home by Benjamin Hall, Thunder Dog: The True Story of a Blind Man, His Guide Dog and the Triumph of Trust. A new book out that can give us a longer perspective on our country is The Honest Book of Presidents: The Men Who Shaped America edited by Allen Estrim. A good look at our constitution or a number of the books on our soldiers would make good use of our time before the Thanksgiving break, Nov. 26-28.
