Wolf Point’s new music instructor is enjoying teaching in the school district very much.

Michael Keefner said, “I love this place. I wished I was here before.”

He noted that the staff and students have been very welcoming to him this fall. “It’s a very nice return after four years away from teaching,” Keefner said.

Keefner’s teaching career includes three years in Williston, N.D., four years at East Fairview Elementary School, two years in Bainville and a year at Noxon.

He then worked in the technology field.

“I missed being in front of a band,” Keefner said of his return to the classroom.

He saw the ad for the position from the Wolf Point School District and it interested him. He has three foster children, two daughters from Poplar and one son from Wolf Point.

“It gives me an opportunity to be closer to their culture,” he said.

He is looking forward to the high school’s fall concert scheduled for Nov. 4. The event will feature the swing choir, combo choir and band. “The level of musicianship I’ve seen is pretty incredible,” Keefner said of the students.

There will be a concert with both junior high and high school students during December.

In addition, Keefner teaches fifth grade students a period each day. Two days with students playing brass instruments and two days with students with woodwinds.

Since coming to Wolf Point, Keefner has enjoyed performing with the Northern Lightning band. He plans to continue being a member of that group.
