County Budget Increases Slightly
Without any major changes from last year’s budget figures, the Roosevelt County Commissioners adopted the 2025-2026 budget during a hearing conducted on Wednesday, Sept. 3.
The budget features a slight increase in county wide property taxes. Those increases include $7.39 for a house valued at $100,000, $22.16 for a house valued at $300,000 and $44.30 for a house valued at $600,000.
Increases for rural county road property taxes are $2.31 for a house valued at $100,000, $6.93 for a house valued at $300,000 and $13.85 for a house valued at $600,000.
“It’s just like pay raises. We’re always behind and never catch up to the actual number,” Commissioner Robert Toavs explained.
No county department received any cuts under the budget.
The adoption of the budget was approved by a 3-0 vote.
Because of new legislation, the commissioners had two options of determining strictly voted mills. Commissioners decided to keep using the same method to recalculate the voter-approved mills.
The mills assessed will remain the same with three mills for the road fund, seven mills for public safety, three mills for districts 1 and 9 ambulance fund, three mills for Poplar hospital district, three mills for Culbertson hospital district, nine mills for Culbertson hospital district emergency medical service, three mills for hospital district 3 and 45 and three mills for hospital district 3 and 45 ambulance.
