Two new single family homes for Fort Peck Community College employees were placed near the Dollar Tree in Wolf Point last week.

Craig Smith, president of the college, said that the total housing for college employees is now eight units, four each in Poplar and Wolf Point.

“It was funded through the USDA tribal college infrastructure grant,” Smith said. “It paid about 90 percent.”

Classes started at Fort Peck Community College last week with about 350 students enrolled. Smith was hopeful that enrollment was going to increase to near 400 students by the end of the week.

Last year, the college’s enrollment was about 400 students in the fall and about 350 students in the spring.

One positive addition this year is a new certified nursing associates program. “Our pre-health and pre-nursing is probably our second or third most popular programs,” Smith said. “We’re pretty excited.”

A goal with the CNA program is to form partnerships with Williston State College in North Dakota and Aaniiih Nakoda College in Fort Belknap.

Fort Peck Community College aims to offer RN degrees within the next couple of years. “That’s our goal,” Smith said.
