Frontier Opens Year With Record Amount Of Students

Superintendent Keith Hays believes this year’s increase in students results in the larger amount of students in the nearly 60-year history of Frontier School.
“We will be pushing 160,” Hays said of the number of students. “We have some classes that have been full for several weeks because we have a cap of 24 per classroom. We have 6-10 on a waiting list.”
Last school year ended with an enrollment of 130 students at Frontier.
“It’s probably a combination of things,” Hays said of the growth. “It sure isn’t because of my Southern charm.”
Staff changes include Lori Shaw for fourth grade and Hamyanie Campbell as a student teacher for kindergarten.
Building improvements include a new roof, air conditioning throughout the school and new carpet in the library.
As far as sports, Jessica Larson is the new head volleyball coach. Frontier will continue to co-op with Wolf Point for football and track.
The year marks Hays’ seventh year at Frontier and 38th year in education. His experience includes 31 years in Kentucky and 25 years as an adminstrator at the high school level. He says he feels more comfortable in this his second year as both the school’s superintendent and principal.
“I still have a lot to learn,” Hays said. “I’m so lucky at Frontier. I have a great stuff and good students. Everybody here and Wolf Point have been very good to me.”
