Cowboys Shoot To Battle For State Football Playoff Berth

The Culbertson Cowboys are looking to be among the top teams in the Eastern C again this football season.
Culbertson placed second in the league standings and won a playoff game last year.
This year’s turnout is 20 players. “It’s a good number considering we lost eight seniors last year,” Coach Brian Manning said.
Returning starters for the Cowboys are senior lineman Kaden Featherston, senior Micah Eagle Boy, senior Ian Snyder and junior Brooks Solem. Eagle Boy earned second team All-Conference honors at linebacker last season.
Other players with quality varsity experience include junior Aden Drake and junior Glenn Sager.
“Overall, we’re fairly limited on varsity experience, but I still like what we have,” Manning said.
The coach adds that the Cowboys have a fair amount of size.
As far as the team’s goals, Manning said, “Win enough games to make the post season. That’s the goal every year.”
The Cowboys will open their season at two-time defending state champion Fairview on Saturday, Aug. 30.
“It will be a tough test at their place,” Manning said. He sees Scobey as the pre-season favorite in the league. “Every team in our league is playing good,” Manning added. The top four teams will advance to the playoffs.
