Track Project Work Starts In Wolf Point
The new track project at Wolf Point High School by Tarkett Sports started the last week of July.
School officials are optimistic about the $1.495 million project will be done by the end of this fall.
“It is scheduled for the end of October,” Wolf Point Superintendent of Schools Dr. David Perkins said. “We hope it is before that.”
The school board accepted a bid of $1.495 million for a posttensioned track by Tarkett Sports on June 4.
The work on the track will include taking the asphalt off and have post-tension concrete. That option basically has a guarantee that it won’t crack for 60 years, but it will need to be resurfaced about every eight to 10 years.
Earlier this year, trustees were leaning toward only scraping and resurfacing the track. Cost for that project was estimated to be between $400,000 to $500,000. The idea of doing only the scrape and resurface process suffered a hit when Jerod Petrino of Tarkett Sports examined the track in late May and determined that approach would improve the track for just a couple of years because of its poor condition.
In early June, the board unanimously approved accepting the bid of $1.495 million for a post-tensioned track.
At that meeting, board chair Roxanne Gourneau said she support the track project on the condition that efforts are made to increase participation in sports. She recommended forming a sub-committee.
Participation for track this spring was 32 students at the high school and 47 at the junior high schools.
Wolf Point is scheduled to host the Northeastern Invitational, Scobey JV Invitational, Gene Nelson Invitational and District 2B meet next track season.
