Highway Patrol To Add Body Cameras
The Montana Highway Patrol (MHP) has just started using body cameras, according to a press release from the organization: “Body cameras are a valuable resource for law enforcement agencies of all sizes.”
Brand-new camera systems are in the process of being installed into vehicles. They will also be connecting them to body cameras, which will be a new start for the total force of over 250 MHP troopers. “Everything we do is geared towards better service to the public, and that’s what this system delivers for us,” said MHP’s Col. Kurt Sager.
Sager said the body cameras will help his agency in multiple ways, including reducing the time it takes to write reports and for getting evidence to prosecutors more efficiently. The body cameras are designed and deployed to add protection for both civilians and troopers.
While the use of body cameras are new, MHP officers have had cameras in their vehicles for decades.
In 2023, the Montana legislature granted MHP $4 million to implement the new system.
