It was with disappointment that I read the information provided by Wolf Point Mayor Chris Dschaak late last week regarding the destruction that took place at Borge Park.
Vandals damaged concrete tables and broke into the concessions’ stand area at the park where baseball and girls softball games are played by our young children. The estimated damage is $50,000. In addition, the mayor mentioned how people have damaged some of the freshly paved asphalt roads in Wolf Point.
It makes people just want to shake their heads regarding these senseless actions.
Don’t these vandals understand that they are part of this community and are only hurting themselves and their neighbors? These young people need to realize that they are loved and cared about by this town’s so many positive thinking citizens.
For example, the Wolf Point Lions Club, with the assistance of many donations, created a brand new playground at Borge Park just a couple of years ago. It’s a great people for young people and families to enjoy on a beautiful day.
The Optimist Club of Wolf Point recently made a donation to the baseball program and is planning a campaign so students have an ample amount of school supplies come this fall.
The Elks Lodge has donated to the youth baseball program.
A wide variety of volunteers walk the roads and sidewalks to clean trash in order to make our town a better looking place.
Members of the Northeast Montana Health Services Charitable Foundation spend time with fundraisers in order to supply higher quality equipment for area health services. They want us to be taken care of when we battle health challenges.
The Wolf Point Volunteer Fire Department is ready for duty, day or night, to contain fires of all sorts. Often, they unselfishly miss family time or fun activities in order to perform this service.
These people don’t do these admirable acts for personal glory. Rather, they do it because they care for their community, their relatives and they care for each of our residents.
So, the next time, if you are a person who thinks that damaging something is somehow rewarding, think about the volunteers who do their best to improve your life by offering parks, health care and safety simply because they care. Hopefully, you will then demonstrate that you care for your community as well.
