Shakespeare Comes To Wolf Point June 27

Local organizers urge residents to attend the Montana Shakespeare in the Park’s performance in Wolf Point on Friday, June 27.

As You Like It will be presented starting at 6:30 p.m. at the park west of Faith Home on Johnson Street.

Organizers Barbara Olson and Vivian Schultz said there is no charge to attend the event because of the great support received from businesses and other supporters.

Olson and Schultz have been leading the local effort for many years, and they are hopeful others would be willing to assist in bringing Shakespeare to Wolf Point. If anyone wishes to volunteer to assist with the effort, they should call Olson at 406-6531143.

“We’re looking for volunteers to take over the Wolf Point coordinator position,” Olson said. “We’re looking for someone to take it over.”

She explained the role includes coordinating meals for the 10-12 performers including lunch the day of the performance, dinner after the performance and breakfast the following day.

The cost of bringing the program to Wolf Point is $1,500 and organizers expressed appreciation to businesses and community members for their support.

The Montana Shakespeare in the Park program provides performances for rural communities that might not otherwise have access to free theater of such quality and scope. The company performs in 64 communities across five states including Montana, Wyoming, Idaho, North Dakota and Washington.

As You Like It speaks to the joy and complexity of love, identity and the transformative power of nature. This romantic comedy follows the story of Rosalind, one of Shakespeare’s most complex female characters, as she ventures into the Forest of Arden alongside a colorful cast of characters to explore questions of love and transformation.

“I’m so delighted to bring

As You to MSIP! It’s a beautiful, funny, thought-provoking play about transformation and the desire to find oneself. It contains yearning and music and one-liners,” Eva Breneman, director, said. “I love the nature of Rosalind and Orlando’s love story and how they fall in love with each other over the very nature of love. I love the primal idea of going back to nature to find one’s deepest desires — I especially think the citizens of Montana and the mountain West will understand that impulse.”

The company’s schedule also includes performances of Henry V in Malta on June 26 and in Sidney on June 28.
