The Optimist Club of Wolf Point is looking to build on last year’s successful “Fill A Box” program.

Optimists began conducting the “Fill A Box” project last summer. The effort involves receiving enough donations of school materials to fill the back of a pickup.

The school supplies should include items such as pencils, pencil boxes, notebooks, hair clips and crayons. The club isn’t requesting donations of everyday clothes, but will gladly accept jackets, gloves, scarves, hats and socks. The supplies will then be donated to schools.

Optimist members Gloria Sande and Carol Neutgens says teachers appreciate the program so they aren’t in a position having to purchase supplies for students.

“That’s when Optimists do, help the kids,” Neutgens said.

Date for the “Fill A Box” project is Aug. 16 at the Wolf Point Area Museum’s parking lot.

Also on the same date, the Optimists will hold their annual community yard sale. Activities will begin at 10 a.m. and run to about 3 p.m.

Organizers said that they need residents to start saving their items and to purchase a $20 space for the yard sale. Tables will not be provided.

To reserve a space rental for the community yard sale, call Karen Nelson, 406-6531064, Carol Neutgens, 406653-3020, or Gloria Sande, 406-653-1044.

To make the day even more fun, Optimists will offer free ice cream sundaes. Children will have the opportunity to decorate Syrofoam bowls for their ice cream.
