Museum Opens For Season

Montie Page, the new curator of the Wolf Point Area Museum, says there is plenty to see at the facility located on U.S. Highway 2.
He has been a volunteer for the museum during the last eight years, including serving as the head cook during the annual pancake breakfast held on Stampede weekend.
“It’s one way to give back to the community,” Page said of his involvement.
Page is known to many in the community as the owner of Muleskinner BBQ. He enjoys chuckwagon cooking and using a dutch oven.
He has always liked history so he feels at home when he welcomes visitors to the museum.
“I’m an old cowboy,” Page said. “I’m fascinated with the blacksmith stuff. Cattlemen coming here from Texas, that’s basically how Montana became a state.”
Being part of the dinosaur route, Page finds looking at fossils interesting.
He said work on the museum’s expansion continues to be made, but more donations are needed to create the frontier town which will feature such exhibits as a blacksmith shop, general store, movie theater, post office and barber shop. The expansion will also allow for more room in the main museum to show additional displays.
He noted the museum includes a great deal of historical items, but he would like to see more Native American artifacts be available for viewing.
Assisting Page at the museum is recent Wolf Point High School graduate Kaleah White Bear.
The museum is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesdays through Saturdays.
