The Fort Peck Tribal Executive Board approved Val Moran on Friday, May 30, to serve as the acting director for the Fort Peck Housing Authority.

Moran has been serving as the administrative assistant at the housing authority. She has worked with the housing authority for 30 years.

The housing commission made the appointment selection, and the TEB concurred with the decision during its meeting on Friday. TEB member Terry Rattling Thunder Sr. expressed a desire to receive a document from the housing commission regarding its desire to appoint Moran. The board was told that minutes from the housing meeting will be approved as soon as possible on Friday.

“Today is critical because grants need to be signed,” TEB member Roxanne Gourneau said. “If we miss this opportunity, it will cost us millions.”

TEB voted 9-0 in favor of Moran serving as acting director.

Scott Azure of the housing authority said the competitive grant to be submitted on Friday amount to $6 million. The grant aims to create 13 new homes and renovate 28 existing homes on the Fort Peck Reservation. Azure said those decisions were made after a needs assessment was conducted.
