FourStar Speaks About Community Patrol Efforts

Wolf Point city council member Lance FourStar discussed the positives of a community patrol during the Wolf Point Community Organization meeting held on Monday, May 19.
FourStar said he has spoken to Wolf Point’s police and city officials about the effort that aims to reduce crime in the community.
FourStar spoke about his desire to obtain attire for the volunteers for black hats, headsets, radios, flashlights and long sleeve T-shirts. He added that the Drug Enforcement Agency has provided stickers.
He said requests have made to patrol especially Wolf Point’s housing areas. Wes Headdress will serve a contact for the program.
“It’s definitely something in the right direction,” FourStar said of the patrol. “We basically need our people to stand up and do what they can to protect our community.”
According to its mission statement, “Agichita patrol is dedicated to supporting local law enforcement and promoting safety in Wolf Point. Guided by integrity, vigilance and respect for our community, we serve as extra eyes and ears — patrolling neighborhoods, documenting suspicious or criminal activity, and promptly reporting incidents to 911. When emergencies arise, we immediately contact the appropriate services to ensure a swift response. Through collaboration, accountability and a commitment to our people, we uphold our duty to protect and strengthen our community.”
One audience member at the WPCO meeting questioned whether WPCO should support the project because of possible lawsuits.
FourStar said that the American Indian Movement of Montana has supported the patrol project.
