Commissioners Discuss Roads
The Roosevelt County Commissioners approved to have a pavement condition index survey conducted on the McCabe highway during their meeting on Tuesday, May 20. The survey indicates the general condition of a pavement section.
Cost for the survey is $9,470. The road has seen a good amount of wear and tear due to increased oil activity along with heavier farm equipment.
John Bach of Interstate Engineering said there are several options that the county could consider if an upgrade of the road is determined to be needed.
During public comment, resident Darrell Synan said County Road 1016 features only dirt and not any gravel. He requested that gravel be added to the road especially with an interest of farming activity. Commissioner Robert Toavs said he will have the road foreman check out the road.
The two abandoned buildings located across from the Sherman Park are now being advertised for a tax deed sale. Commissioners explained that the sale will be conducted twice, then the price could be reduced by 30 percent the third time and then have an open price the next time.
During commissioners’ updates, Commissioner Doug Marottek said that he visited with the district judge regarding safety needs in the courtroom. A grant could cover such purchases as a new security camera, door locks and bullet-proof items.
Commissioner Gordon Oelkers attended the Montana Natural Resources meeting in Lewistown.

The letter reads, “The GNDC Microbusiness program is a valuable asset to the economy of Roosevelt County and eastern Montana, providing critical support to small entrepreneurs who are making a meaningful impact in their communities.”
