McNabb Hired As Road Foreman

The Roosevelt County commissioners hired Derek McNabb as the county’s road foreman during their meeting on Monday, May 12.

McNabb has been serving as interim road manager since the death of longtime road foreman Ken Norgaard in April.

“He will be an asset to the organization,” Commissioner Gordon Oelkers said of McNabb. “There’s a lot going on with roads right now.”

Commissioner Robert Toavs added, “He knows this county inside and out.”

Also during the meeting, commissioners approved purchasing a new Ford pickup for the sheriff’s office. Price was $54,250. Toavs said the price was the lowest bid.

Sheriff Jason Frederick said four vehicles have gone down with engine problems in the last month.

Oelkers said there was still $70,000 in the sheriff’s budget for the purchases.

During commissioner updates, Toavs said he was told the Montana Department of Transportation was adding another stop sign on Rodeo Road and Fourth Avenue East for safety reasons.

Commissioner Doug Marottek said that upgrading towers was discussed during a 9-1-1 board meeting.

The purchase of a new sprayer for the mosquito board for $20,425 was approved.

Mike Leinen has agreed to serve on the county’s health board as the business representative member.

Dennie Reum was hired for the county’s road department.

Raises were approved detention center employees Rhea Smoker and Chelsie Lindsay.
