County’s Rank Drops For Unemployment
Roosevelt County has dropped to 42nd place in county rankings for unemployment rate, according to the Montana Department of Labor and Industry.
Roosevelt and Lake counties are tied for 42nd place with unemployment rates of 3.7 percent during March.
In April, Roosevelt County ranked 38th in the state with an unemployment rate of 3.8 percent. There are 73 less employees in the county than a year ago.
The state’s unemployment rate fell slightly to 2.7 percent during March. The rate has remained under 3 percent for six consecutive months. The national rate is 4.2 percent Counties with the lowest unemployment are Liberty at 1.6, Prairie at 1.7, Carter at 1.8, Chouteau at 1.8 and Fallon at 1.8.
Counties with the highest rate are Sanders at 6.9, Lincoln at 6.9, Granite at 5.4, Petroleum at 5.2 and Mineral at 5.1.
Eastern Montana counties include Daniels at 2.1 for sixth place, Dawson and Richland both at 2.3 for ninth place, Sheridan at 2.8 for 22nd place, Valley and McCone at 2.9 for 28th place and Phillips at 4.5 for 48th place.
As far as reservations, Flathead ranks first at 4.7 and Fort Peck is second at 5.3 percent.
“For six months, Montana’s unemployment rate has remained below 3 percent, with nearly two job openings for every unemployed worker,” Gov. Gianforte said is a press release. “Through our efforts to lower taxes and remove red tape, we’ve have created an environment that empowers entrepreneurs and businesses to invest and create good-paying jobs for Montanans across our state.”
