County To Auction Items Online
Roosevelt County commissioners agreed to try selling items online through a local auctioning service during their weekly meeting on Tuesday, April 8.
Commissioners voted on a 2-0 decision to have Toavs Premier Auctions handle the duties. Commissioner Robert Toavs, owner of Toavs Premier Auctions, recused himself in the voting.
Officials said that Toavs Premier Auctions is the only company that provides such a service in Roosevelt County.
Toavs said he plans to put a Peterbilt tractor on his on-line platform first.
Commissioner Gordon Oelkers said the county has struggled with little success of trying to sell items through sealed bids. He wants to make sure the public gets a chance to consider making purchases.
“We haven’t had any good luck,” Oelkers said.
Toavs says he usually lists the items on-line for two weeks and then the actual auction takes a week. The auction company will receive a percentage of the sale.
During commissioners’ reports, Commissioner Doug Marottek took part in the final walk-through for the slab replacement on County Road 2031.
The final payment has been made for the project, which is located between Wolf Point and Scobey.
Toavs attended a juvenile detention meeting including many counties. Cost to house a juvenile inmate for a day is $260 in Cascade County and $235 in Yellowstone County.
Oelkers said bids are being advertised for a building to house snow removal equipment at the airport in Culbertson. After not receiving any bids last year, officials changed the building’s dimensions to attract bidders.
Commissioners approved the hiring of Devin Sadler as a temporary deputy for the Roosevelt County Sheriff’s Office.
