Red Hawks Fare Well At Tourney
The Froid/Lake volleyball squad tied for fifth place at the 14-team volleyball tournament held in Scobey on Saturday, Sept. 14.
The Red Hawks took third place during pool play. Froid/ Lake opened action with victories over Culbertson and Ekalaka.
Froid/Lake then downed Lustre Christian, 25-10, 25-16.
The serving of Addison Elvsaas along with the net play of Mara Salvevold and Brooklynn Nordwick led the Red Hawks to an 11-4 lead in the first set against Lustre.
Isabelle Nordwick accounted for a kill and an ace to help the Red Hawks increase the gap to 20-9. A tip by Elvsaas, a kill by Salvevold and an ace by Elvsaas produced the 2510 final.
A spike by Jordyn Breuer and the serving of Elvsaas led the way to a 6-3 advantage in the second set.
After Lustre tied the score at 12-12 on the serving of Kencia Brown, the serving of I. Nordwick put the Red Hawks back ahead. Salvevold scored a kill for a 20-14 lead.
The Red Hawks finished the match on a tip by B. Nordwick, an ace by Salvevold and a tip by Elvsaas.
Froid/Lake then dropped a 15-25, 24-25 decision against a strong Scobey team.
In bracket play, the Red Hawks came up short against North Country by a 25-27, 2523, 11-15 final.
The serving of I. Nordwick and a block by Salvevold put the Red Hawks up 19-12 in the second set. North Country tied the score at 21-21, but the Red Hawks pulled out the win with a spike by I. Nordwick ending the game.
In the third set, I. Nordwick scored a kill for a 7-7 deadlock. With the score at 12-11, the Mavericks tallied the match’s final three points.
