Elizabeth Gilchrist
Elizabeth Ann (Sassen) Gilchrist, 76, of Great Falls died Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2024.
She was born on March 31, 1948, in Wolf Point, the third daughter of Edward and Alice (McKinniss) Sassen.
After graduating from high school in Wolf Point, she attended the University of Montana in Missoula. After college, she worked a summer in the Yukon at a fly-in fishing lodge. Then, she lived in Great Falls until moving to Haynes and Ketchikan, Alaska. Later, she lived in Helena and Missoula, before moving to Spokane, Wash. She lived in San Jose, Calif., and Washington, D.C., and ultimately moved to Stuttgart, Germany, where she became director of the USO. She traveled widely throughout Europe before finally moving to Charleston, S.C., and living there for 25 years. She moved to Montana in 2020 to be closer to her family.
She was an adventurous spirit who enjoyed travel as well as her work as an accountant. Despite her health challenges over the past 48 years, she lived life to the fullest.
She is survived by her sisters, Louise, Carol and Catherine.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Edna; and brother, Robert.
At her request, a graveside service will be held at the Coffee Creek Cemetery.
