4-H Council Honors Swank, Welcome Stop
The late Pearl Swank of the Poplar area and the Welcome Stop in Bainville were saluted by the Roosevelt County 4-H Council during the county fair’s livestock auction held on Friday, Aug. 9.
Since 2008, the Roosevelt County 4-H Council has recognized an individual and local business for their dedication and involvement with the 4-H program.
Swank was an active leader for decades in the Up-N-Atom 4-H Club as she taught girls to sew using her home economics teaching skills. She sewed all her own dresses, always raised a big garden and was known for “Pearl’s potatoes.”
Her generosity and thoughtfulness toward others was greatly appreciated. Swank died this past January at the age of 100, but the 4-H community knows she was a real gem.
The Welcome Stop is a family- owned gas station and convenience store located just off U.S. Highway 2 in Bainville. Customers can find Montana made souvenirs, groceries and seasonal items at the business. It also has a cafe with all your favorites.
Each year, the Welcome Stop owners John and Kathy Gilligan support the Roosevelt County 4-H/FFA livestock auction by purchasing several items that the local 4-H/FFA youth have worked hard to raise.
