Number of Fatalities Low In District

The Glendive district, which includes Roosevelt County, has the second least amount of vehicle fatalities in the state since 2022, according to figures from the Montana Highway Patrol.

The data shows the Glendive district with 13 total fatalities including 10 in 2022. As of May 28, there were two fatalities in the district during 2024. The Glendive district includes the counties of Roosevelt, Valley, Daniels, Sheridan, Garfield, McCone, Richland, Dawson, Prairie, Rosebud, Custer, Wibaux, Fallon, Carter and Powder River.

Of the fatalities in the Glendive district, seven were on primary roads. Three were on rural roads.

The Billings district had the most deadly crashes with 39 including 18 in 2024. The Missoula district is second with 32 including seven in 2024. The Bozeman district was third with 20 including eight in 2024.

During the time span, there were 173 fatalities in the state. Of those crashes, 70 came on primary roads and 28 were on interstates.

Of the 63 fatalities during the first five months of 2024, 40 were one vehicle crashes. Seat belts were not used in 36 of the crashes and alcohol was suspected in 26 of the crashes. Speed was suspected in 31 of the crashes. A total of 34 occurred during daytime hours and 23 happened on other than dry roads.
