Wolf Point Prepares For Stampede

Wolf Point will begin celebrating its second 100 Stampedes when the 101st Wolf Point Wild Horse Stampede takes place Wednesday, July 10, through Saturday, July 13.

Activities began with the second annual Wild Horse Ranch Rodeo starting at 6 p.m. on Wednesday at the Marvin Brookman Stadium. Breaking Eight will perform after the ranch rodeo. A pitchfork fondue was held prior to the ranch rodeo, honoring the many sponsors who help host the annual events.

The Wild Horse Stampede rodeo is scheduled for Thursday through Saturday at 7 p.m. each night.

The Fort Peck Sioux Singers will sing for a performance by Native American dancers at 6:30 p.m. during the first night of the PRCA rodeo Thursday.

The Stampede Roundup Tough Enough To Wear Pink golf tournament is set for Thursday beginning at 10 a.m. at the Wolf Point Airport Golf Course.

An all-class reunion hosted by the Class of 1971 will be celebrated from 1 to 5:30 p.m. on Friday at the Elks Event Center.

A street dance featuring local band After Midnight will take place Thursday night downtown.

When you need a great bite to eat, people are reminded that the famous Catholic Hamburger Stand is open from 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. on Thursday, Friday and Saturday along with 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday.

The carnival will be available starting at 5 p.m. on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, weather permitting.

Outstanding parades are scheduled for 1 p.m. on Friday and Saturday afternoons. This year’s theme is “Montana Roots and Cowboy Boots.” Float categories include commercial, cultural/ heritage, political, youth club, adult club, restored vehicle and original vehicle. Horses and riders are also popular features of the parade.

On Saturday, people can enjoy a great start at the Wolf Point Area Museum’s annual pancake breakfast, which is held from 7 to 11 a.m. at the museum’s U.S. Highway 2 location.

Northeast Montana Health Services will present the Human Stampede on Saturday morning. Registration begins at 8 a.m. The 5K run starts at 9 a.m., and the mile run/walk begins at 9:30 a.m. at Sherman Park.

People can check out all the great items offered at the Art in the Park from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Sherman Park.

After Saturday’s parade, Miss Rodeo Montana will hold a stick horse rodeo for youngsters starting at about 2 p.m. at Faith Home, located at 1000 Sixth Avenue North.

Jared Stewart will entertain after the rodeo on Saturday night in the area behind the stadium.

Another highlight during Stampede weekend will be the powwow sponsored by the Wolf Point Community Organization at the Wadopana powwow grounds on Thursday. The event will include a petting zoo and horses from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. A community feed is scheduled for 5 p.m. Grand entry will start at 7 p.m.
