Stampede Parades To Be Held Friday, Saturday This Year

The Wild Horse Stampede parades will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, July 12, and Saturday, July 13, with this year’s theme being “Montana Roots and Cowboy Boots.”

“I really wanted it to be for people to come up with their roots to the community,” said Erin Ricker, who has been working with the parade for five years. She wants the parade to be a celebration of the people of Wolf Point, no matter what age or race.

The parade is truly an all ages event, with families and elders arriving year after year. Candy, water bottles and other goodies are thrown from floats to the watchers along the parade route, which starts at the Wolf Point High School on the west end of Main Street, continues down to the stoplight at Third Avenue South, then around the park and back to the stoplight and back to the high school area. Ricker asks for people throwing bottles to be careful when throwing to make sure not to accidentally throw at a person.

The seven different float categories are commercial, cultural, political, youth club, adult club, restored vehicles and original vehicles.

Horse entries must wear long sleeves and boots both days to qualify to win.

Ricker noted that parade participants need to arrive by 11 a.m. To win, entries must participate in both days, not just one.

The parade hopes to get better and better every year. Ricker says that anyone who has any suggestions or wants to help should contact her.
