WPCO Plans Powwow Celebration

The Wolf Point Community Organization will hold a celebration and powwow during Wolf Point Stampede weekend again this year. The event will take place on Thursday, July 11, at the Wadopana Powwow Grounds. WPCO chair Holly Hamilton said that the event keeps growing and it’s possible that it will turn into a two-day celebration next year.

During WPCO’s monthly meeting on Monday, June 17, Tribal Executive Board member Roxanne Gourneau said WPCO is important because it gets behind both children and the elderly.

The celebration will include a petting zoo and horses sponsored by the Fort Peck Community College’s agriculture department and Spotted Bull Recovery Center from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Hamburgers and hot dogs will be provided for lunch.

A community feed is scheduled for that day beginning at 5 p.m.

In addition, vendors and food stands are welcomed to participate at the event.

The powwow will have its grand entry at 7 p.m.

Financial prizes will be given for men’s all categories, women’s all categories, teen boys’ all categories, teen girls’ all categories, junior boys’ all categories and junior girls’ all categories.

Patrick Okute’ Sica’ Ricker will serve as announce. Zane Sibley is the arena director.

Security will be on the grounds. No drugs or alcohol are allowed.
