Culbertson native Nicole Simonsen says her first year as the Culbertson Superintendent of Schools has featured many memorable highlights.

“As our class of 2024 crossed the graduation stage, I asked myself, ‘How could this first year in Culbertson have possibly gone so fast?’ I think the saying, ‘time flies when you are having fun’ sums it up best! This year was loaded with awesome student accomplishments and forward movement from our team,” Simonsen said.

She reports that Culbertson will have multiple building projects going on this summer including new high school restrooms, exterior repairs on the old armory followed by a fresh coat of exterior paint, new entrance and restrooms at the old armory, new stage floor and curtains at the old armory, a new roof on the school and a concrete parking lot in the southwest corner.

“We will also continue to work during June and July to build our elementary team. We are still seeking two high-quality certified elementary teachers. Our classified team has openings as well, two kitchen employees and a full-time custodial,” Simonsen said.

She said one of the school district’s biggest changes will be the semester class schedule versus the trimester schedule. “Already we are seeing the semester schedule will bring more consistency to elementary specials (physical education, music, library and art) and offer more electives for our high school students. We are looking forward to the semester schedule and feel that it will be a positive change. I hope everyone enjoys summer and I can’t wait to get another year started on Aug. 15,” Simonsen said.
