American Legion Hosts Memorial Day Program

Thomas Mann Post #81 of the American Legion in Culbertson hosted a Memorial Day program at the legion hall Monday, May 27. Incoming post commander Christopher Petersen was master of ceremonies and delivered the main address, which centered on the sacrifices made by veterans since WWII, including a special emphasis on the challenges faced by bomber squadrons.
The hall was packed for the event and refreshments were offered. Attendees made the Pledge of Allegiance and sang The Star-Spangled Banner, Battle Hymn of the Republic and Amazing Grace.
The American Creed was recited and an invocation, benediction and closing prayer were delivered by Pastor Brandon Marschner. Felix Becker accompanied on the piano and bugler Bella Petersen performed “Taps.”
The program included the posting of colors by the American Legion Honor Guard and a wreath of poppies placed at the memorial by the post’s auxially unit.
A salute by firing detail concluded the event, along with the retiring of colors. Lunch was served.
