Tribal Executive Board To Consider Blood Quantum
According to Fort Peck Tribal Executive Board member Jestin Dupree, the board met in committee last week in Poplar and agreed to bring a discussion on possible adjustments to tribal membership regarding blood percentages, or quantum, to the next full board meeting May 28.
The resolution stated the board’s intention to “adjust the blood quantum in order for our future tribal members to have a tribe and a place to call home.”
Dupree said community meetings are in planning stages. He said issues to be discussed include the addition of total Native ancestry, lineal descendancy and relationships with First Nations in Canada to membership requirements for the Fort Peck Tribes.
