Ronie Shumway

Ronie W. Shumway, 81, of Glasgow died April 19, 2024. at Billings Clinic.

He was born Jan. 18, 1943, to Frank and Vera (Marmon) Shumway in Wolf Point.

He attended and played sports at Wolf Point Public School where he graduated in 1963.

Right out of school, his cousin George and he went and enlisted in the Navy.

After he was discharged from the service, he decided to go MSU in Bozeman to pursue a teaching degree in math. While going to school he there, he met Linda. They were married in a small ceremony Dec. 18, 1971. In 1972, they ended up in Glasgow and he taught math at Glasgow High School until he retired.

After retirement, he went to Mountain Village, Alaska, for six months. He enjoyed it there and learned a lot about their culture. When it came time for him to leave, the people were sad to see him go.

Once back in Glasgow, he got a job with Montana Department Transportation and worked there for 20 years, retiring in 2023. From math, drivers education and as a coach, he gave a lot of his time to students. Any time a student would say “I can’t do this,” he would make the time to work with them. Failure wasn’t in his vocabulary.

Preceding him in death were his son, Tyrel; and brother, Gary.

Survivors are wife, Linda; son, Shane Shumway; daughters, Kera Towner and Kala Pedersen; numerous grandchildren; brother, Craig Shumway; and sister, Renee Waite.

At his request, no services will be held.
