Breaks Elk Working Group Meeting To Be Held In Malta April 24

Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks will host a Breaks Elk Working Group meeting Wednesday, April 24, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Rancher’s Stewardship Alliance office, located across the street from the post office in Malta.

The BEWG group consists of landowners, hunters, outfitters, land management agency staff, and local businessmen that meet to discuss and make recommendations on elk management issues in the Region 6 portion of the Missouri River Breaks, including Hunting Districts 621, 622 and 630. This group has been in existence since 1995. For more information about the BEWG, visit fwp. mt.gov/aboutfwp/breaks-elkworking- group. The meeting is also open to the public.

Topic to be discussed at this meeting include:

•Results from the most recent elk survey conducted in February of 2024

•Current elk license and permit quotas, as well as elk harvest estimates

•Chronic Wasting Disease update

•Update on the statewide Elk Management Plan These topics will be presented for awareness, and any resulting FWP recommendations will be made available for public comment for the Fish and Wildlife Commission to consider in any decision making.
