The Wolf Point Chapter of Walleyes Unlimited held its 38th annual banquet at the Wolf Point Elks Event Center on Saturday, April 6.

Highlight of the evening was the presented to Doug Hopson in honor of the late Nancy Hopson as Angler of the Year. The announcement created a standing ovation from the sell-out crowd.

Kris Keller, Region 1 director, noted that Nancy Hopson was an active member of the Walleyes Unlimited chapter for more than 30 years. She is a former vice president and was currently serving as the chapter’s treasurer.

“She did a lot for this organization locally,” Keller said.

Doug Marottek was inducted into the chapter’s hall of fame.

Marottek has been putting on one of the top ice fishing tournaments in the area for 16 years.

Keller said Marottek is a promoter of fishing throughout the area.

Carly and Whit Rush were recognized for winning the mixed couple of the year award for the Fort Peck Walleye Tournament Series. The Rush team finished with 177.94761 points.

The 2023 Wolf Point chapter officers were Garrett Pronto was president, Keller as vice president, Samar Pronto as secretary and Nancy Hopson as treasurer.

The officers for 2024 are Joe Erickson as president, Tyler Larsen as vice president, Macy LaPlante as secretary and Samar Pronto as treasurer.

Wolf Point’s Steve Harada serves as executive director for the state and Keller is region 1 director.
