Romero Makes Not Guilty Plea In Federal Court
A Poplar man has been charged with numerous charges in a federal court.
Appearing in Great Falls before U.S. Magistrate Judge John T. Johnston and pleading not guilty on March 26 was Brandon Lee Romero, 29, of Poplar on charges of robbery, carjacking, transportation of stolen vehicle and assault with a dangerous weapon, reported the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
If convicted of the most serious crime, Romero faces a maximum of 15 years in prison, a $250,000 fine and three years of supervised release.
Romero was detained pending further proceedings.
The Fort Peck Tribes Law Enforcement Services; Williston, N.D., Police Department; and Roosevelt County Sheriff’s Office conducted the investigation.
According to court documents, Romero stabbed an individual and took the vehicle the individual was driving near Poplar on April 14, 2023. He then drove to the vehicle from near Poplar to near Williston, N.D.
The charging documents are merely accusations and defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
