Lustre Christian Returns State Placers For Track Season
The Lustre Christian High School track program is enjoying another excellent turnout this season.
Coach Lynn Unrau said the team features 26 athletes including 16 boys and 10 girls.
“It’s a really good turnout,” Unrau said. “It’s a record in recent history.”
Johnslee Pierre, a sophomore, returns from a state championship year as a freshman. He is the defending state champion in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 39.98 seconds. He also placed fourth in the triple jump at the state meet.
Pierre and senior Terran Joseph are both back from the state champion 400-meter relay team.
Unrau hopes the relay can qualify for the state meet again this season despite having to replace two legs.
“We have some other quick guys,” she said. “I think we will make it to state.”
Joseph also competes in sprints and the long jump for the Lions. He qualified for the state meet in the long jump last season.
Seniors Cayden Klatt and Ife Aniobi also return for Lustre. Klatt is a solid distance runner for the Lions. Aniobi was the alternate on Lustre’s short relay team last year.
The Lions are the defendin district and divisional champions in the boys’ division.
“It will be tougher this year,” Unrau said. “It’s a goal for us.”
Lustre’s girls, meanwhile, are aiming for more success this year.
Unrau is pleased that the turnout is higher for the girls than in past years. She feels Lustre’s girls have good potential.
“We will see once we get to the meets,” Unrau noted.
The Lions will compete at the Glasgow Invitational on Friday, March 29.
