Indians Aim For Strong Golf Campaign In 2024

With a large group of returning players, Poplar’s golfers are looking to move up in the divisional standings this season.

“Most of the kids were out at the course last summer putting in a lot of work in their golf game,” Poplar Coach Brock Copenhaver said. “It showed toward the end of the season where most of them knocked off four to five strokes on their rounds.”

Returning senior Landon Young was a state tournament qualifier in both 2022 and 2023.

Other returning players for Poplar’s boys are senior Quinn Sutherland, senior Gage Berg, junior Kaniel Ricker, junior Blake Lambert and sophomore Lukas Young.

Also expecting to have solid seasons for the Indians are Kameron Reum and Navarjo Escarcega.

The girls’ squad will feature junior Mattie Falls Down, junior Angelina Escarcega, sophomore Bree Brown and freshman Francesca Crawford.

“The goal for this year is to get better every day in practice so that we can continue to lower our golf score each week,” Copenhaver said. “I would also like to see more than one golfer to state this year.”
