The Bainville Bulldogs look forward to a strong season with 18 athletes this track campaign.

“We have a lot of state qualifiers from last year,” Bainville Coach Chance Hyatt said.

Heading the list are seniors Samuel Butikofer and Charles Butikofer. The twins tied for fifth place in the high jump at the Class C state track meet last season. Charles also qualified for the state meet in the javelin.

Hyatt feels Bainville’s strengths will include the middistance runs for boys, high jump for boys, throwing events for girls and sprints for girls.

Reese Harmon won the divisional title and Kaiden Holmes finished third in the 800 at the Eastern C meet last year. Hyatt is hopeful to have a solid 1600-meter relay team again this season.

“We have to fill in a couple spots,” he said. Hailey Berwick returns after winning the long jump event and establishing a school record last season. The sophomore also holds the school record in the 400-meter dash.

Elsie Wilson should be one of the division’s top athletes in the 100-meter hurdles, 300-meter hurdles and high jump.

For throwing events, Miah Pippenger took fifth place in the shot put at last season’s divisional meet and is expected to be a force again this year.

Also expected to be solid in throwing events are Addy Hansen and Lila Butikofer.

Hyatt’s goals for the team is to compete for trophies at the district meet.
