Marottek Seeks Commissioner Position
Doug Marottek of Poplar is the third candidate that has filed for the Roosevelt County commissioner position.
Marottek’s work experience includes being a deputy for the Roosevelt County Sheriff’s Office from 20012009, serving with the tribal police and then being chief of police in Poplar for a couple of years.
He currently is an oilfield worker and works as manager of the Buckhorn Bar and Cafe. The Buckhorn is owned by his father, Harold, and his uncle, Charles. Marottek is assisted at the Buckhorn by his wife, Ryan.
“It’s going well, but it’s a lot of work,” Doug said.
The Marotteks, who have three daughters, have been the organizers of an ice fishing tournament and other fishing tournaments for many years.
His community service has included a time of about nine years on the Poplar School Board.
He said he was urged to seek the commissioner position since Commissioner Gary Macdonald is retiring. “I thought I could go on to bigger and better things,” Marottek joked.
He says he isn’t concerned about any particular issue in the county, but he enjoys listening to community input and helping area residents.
