Iverson Learns Lesson while Raising Sheep

Senior Profile
Along with a good share of activities at school, Bainville High School senior Hallie Iverson also keeps busy raising her own flock of sheep.
She was successful in applying for a sheep production and marketing grant two years ago. Her flock includes eight sheep.
“I wanted sheep since I was little,” Iverson said. “I thought the grant was a great opportunity.”
She says the amount of time needed to care for the sheep varies from week to week. Recently, it’s been about an hour a day.
“They can be stubborn,” Iverson said. “It can be hard getting them in the trailer.”
Iverson has enjoyed success in the school’s FFA program. She serves as the chapter’s vice president and has been a member for four years. She qualified for the national competition in parliamentary procedures.
“I like the team aspect of the competition,” she explained.
A highlight of attending the national conference was meeting people from across the country.
Her other FFA activities include livestock judging, agronomy and floriculture. She placed fifth at the district level in livestock judging.
The National Honor Society member has been involved in 4-H for seven years. Her favorite aspect is showing steers at the county fair.
She has been grand champion twice and reserve champion another time. She feels that her steer this year will also earn honors.
“I’m pretty confident of doing well,” Iverson said.
In Business Professionals of America, Iverson has qualified for state in medical coding, desktop publishing and parliamentary procedures. Her favorite event is desktop publishing. She’s looking forward to the state conference scheduled in March.
Her favorite class is anatomy and physiology because she enjoys science.
Ag instructor Kellan Standley is her favorite teacher. “He’s very helpful and involved,” Iverson explained.
After high school, she will attend Williston State College for general studies. She is considering a career in nursing.
She has attended school in Bainville since the sixth grade.
“I really like how involved you can be,” Iverson said.
