Kurt Grimsrud

Kurt W. Grimsrud passed away unexpectedly at his home in Miles City, Mont., on Feb. 7, 2024.

Kurt was born in Wolf Point, Mont., to Larry E. Grimsrud and Sharon L. Sugden Grimsrud on March 5, 1968. He was the sixth of seven children. Kurt spent his early years growing up on the farm north of Wolf Point with his family. The family then moved to the river bottom west of Wolf Point to the log house his father built.

In 1982 Kurt, his younger sister Shay and his parents moved to Haxby, Mont. Kurt attended Cat Creek country school for two years and then resided in a dormitory in Jordan while attending high school. He worked on ranches in the Jordan area where he made lifelong friends.

His first job outside of ranching was in the state of Washington working for a painting and sandblasting company where he learned his trade and did very well. While there, he met Cari Keesecker and they had a son named Dalton. Kurt went on to work all over the country as far north as Alaska and as far south as Panama.

Kurt continued this work and excelled at his trade with Ostrom Paint and Sandblasting company in Illinois where he worked up and down the Mississippi River working on dams and levees. Kurt met and married Alison in Lacrosse, Wis., and they had a daughter, Ruby, who was named after his grandmother.

Kurt made his way back to Billings, Mont. While there, he and Kristen built the business Paint All Inc. They had two children, Cooper and Ivy. His four children were the loves of his life.

His last years were spent in Miles City working for Transco Railroad refinishing tanker cars for the railroad.
